Editorial Reviews:

The first mind-body program that helps women and couples to discover and work through emotional and psychological barriers to conception, The Language of Fertility teaches methods of conscious fertility that can work with or without the assistance of your physician.

Niravi B. Payne is an internationally recognized pioneer in mind-body fertility therapy who has counseled hundreds of clients from all over the United States and abroad. Her clinical experience has shown that reproductive problems, including miscarriages, difficulty in conceiving, and low sperm count, are directly linked to attitudes, beliefs, and family dynamics that reach back into your childhood and affect your emotional life, your reproductive system, and your fertility today. Payne has adapted her sought-after Whole Person Fertility Programsm, which she teaches to other therapists and uses with great success with her clients, to make it available and accessible to readers for the first time in this book.

The Language of Fertility challenges the traditionally held view that problems with fertility are due to purely a medical condition to be treated with drugs and surgery. Niravi Payne explains how women's and men's bodies and minds can be so affected by generations of their family's beliefs and patterns of behavior that their natural fertility and ability to conceive can be blocked. Her unique techniques of self-analysis help women, men, and couples become conscious about how they need to change their minds and their lives to reclaim their natural fertility and conceive and give birth to a baby. Her methods are helpful at any time--whether used while undergoing medical reproductive treatments, between treatments, or independent of any medical treatment.

In the Whole Person Fertility Programs, Payne leads readers through the same exercises, family tree mappings, meditations, visualizations, and journal-writing that have helped her clients break through the emotional barriers to conception and have led them to heal their whole lives--whether or not pregnancy occurs. And she tells dozens of inspiring and compelling case studies from her own practice, in which her clients have healed their relationships to their spouses, siblings, and other family members, and as a direct result have been able to conceive.

The Language of Fertility also establishes a new way of thinking and talking about fertility that forever banishes the "too oldisms"  that many women in their thirties and forties often hear, including outdated and inaccurate terms such as "unexplained infertility"  and "old eggs."  Niravi Payne debunks ageist myths through an eye-opening exploration of the historical and sociological factors that profoundly affected the reproductive lives of the millions of female baby boomers who were able to delay childbearing. In addition, she allays the growing concerns of women in their twenties and early thirties who are waiting to have children until later in life and are concerned about their future ability to conceive.

By committing to the healing process of the Whole Person Fertility Programsm, you will increase your chances of conceiving and carrying to term the baby you long for. Whether or not you eventually do conceive, you will gain such immense emotional and psychological insight that you will reclaim your birthright as a whole, vibrant person.

Summary: Oh, what your past can do to you!!
Comment: This book is fabulous!! I am sorry that the one reviewer who miscarried thought the author was asking that we take blame for what happens to us. I didn't get that at all!! The author explains, instead, that past experiences may have left us with a "bad taste" that could be impeding our success at conceiving. She never says it's our fault. But that guilt, abuse, grief, etc. could all be blocking our ability. Through doing all these exercises, I went through some major catharsis. I won't lie: It was pretty painful at times to face all the horrors that I had forgotten over the years. But I have come through feeling like the world has been lifted from my shoulders. For Example: My mom grew up poor and during the great depression. She had hoped for a better life but instead married and had children, which kept her poor and unfulfilled. As her mother did. My mother blamed her having children for why she was not fulfilled. I grew up poor and am only now realizing that I fear having children because of my mom's attitude. I only wish I could afford to find a therapist willing to take me through the journey. I know I still have a long way to go, but oh, the journey is looking much brighter now.

Summary: Hope
Comment: I am three-fourths through this book and have found it to be a great exploration of both my emotional and family history. Being a counselor, I have spent a great deal of time examining my family patterns, however, the author guided me through the process in a slightly different way, than the conventional Genogram. I found her twist on the basic Genogram to be very enlightening. It even lead to a conversation with my husband, that might not have happened otherwise. I am finding that no matter what infertility book I open, I am not finding "the answer." With this book, I found answers to questions I wasn't even asking.

Summary: Opposite effect
Comment: I had a miscarriage last year after a long attempt at conception and I'm trying everything to get pregnant again. When I saw this book in the discount bin, I grabbed it. What a mistake. For about two months, I felt WORSE. The book suggests that I miscarried because I wasn't "thinking" correctly about my pregnancy or had doubts about it. All the specialists encourage you not to blame yourself but this author does just the opposite. If this book helps you, with it's silly exercises, more power to you. My suggestion is to save your money. The discounted price that I spent for it was way too much.

Summary: Inspirational book
Comment: I felt that this book was very encouraging. I believe that this book is important for those people that want to conceive a healthy pregnancy. This book addresses mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of fertility. It is truly inspiring and helpful.

Summary: Enlightening
Comment: I am currently experiencing infertility, and the Mind-Body Connection that Niravi speaks about has been quite enlightening for me. In one exercise the reader is asked to research an Ephistogram--a chart that works somewhat like a family tree--but is much more revealing. With this exercise, I found out things about my family that I may never have known, and whether I achieve pregnancy or not, through this book, I have learned much about how my family's history has helped to create who I am today.
