Summary: 8 Weeks to a Healthier Life
Comment: This book proves that fitness training can be as much of a sport as any played on a field. The workouts are challenging, fun programs designed to engage your brain as well as your body. You can do these workouts at home, which is what I usually do. I have also taken this book to the gym and worked out with their equipment. I have even done the workouts with a few friends as a circuit class. We had a great time. I alternate between the different workouts, depending on what equipment I'm in the mood to use that day. I also use Joan's book "Strength Training for Women." I usually do 2 days upper body, 2 days lower body, add some core in on both days from that book. It's an incredible total body resource that everyone should own. I then try to do a third day from 8 Weeks or her new book "15 Minute Total Body Workout." I'll may be doing two days of workouts from 8 Weeks because I've started Pilates. That way I can get some rest time between workouts. I would highly recommend this book. Joan makes it easy for me to get a safe, effective and fun workout. Also, if you don't own Joan's other books and her Strength Training deck, you should. No one knows fitness like Joan!

Summary: My body feels younger already!
Comment: I've been using this book for four weeks now and I absolutely love it!!! Recently turning 32 yet feeling much older, the book's title, "8 Weeks to a Younger Body" caught my attention.

I started with the evaluation exercises and found that my fitness level is below average for my age group (26-35 yrs). As the author instructs, I started with the program for the age group one level older than mine (36-45 yrs). In just two weeks, I progressed from the easier Level 1 to the more challenging Level 2 routine of the age group. I used 0 to 3 lb. weights for Level 1 but now I can do 5 lb. weights for Level 2. Now starting week 4, I am about to move on to the most advanced level, Level 3 and use 8 lb. weights!

I am a true believer of this program. I feel a tremendous improvement in my strength and stamina. I notice I can carry my heavy bags up and down the stairs of New York's subway stations without feeling as completely out of breath as before. I am really looking forward to moving up to my own age group's routine.

I also love this book because:

(1) It is very easy to use. The author explains every exercise in a clear and concise manner; complete with high quality photos that make it easy to understand and follow. I especially like the way there are call-outs to where you should "feel" the exercise so I can check whether my form is right.

(2) It requires very minimal equipment and can be done at home or anywhere. No fancy schmancy gadgets that cost a fortune. Just an exercise ball, a few weights and voila, I am good to go.

(3) It is made of sturdy, high quality cardstock. This is really important because you have to keep referring back to your age group's section in the book. I hate books that are constructed poorly and made of cheap paper that falls/rips apart after a few uses. This book isn't one of them.

I am recommending this book to all my family and friends. It's the best value for money exercise investment I've made. I found the author has another book, "Strength Training for Women" and I just ordered my copy from Amazon.com.

Summary: Gain with no pain
Comment: I was amazed at how easy and painless the workout in Joan's book was! I could get through all the exercises without having any pain in my legs, shoulders, or neck, and that hasn't been true of most workouts I have tried. I could feel that my body was getting a good workout, but I certainly wasn't sore afterwards- that made it much easier to continue the workout daily. The directions in the book make it a very easy program to follow. I am definitely sticking with this routine!

Summary: A real find for fitness
Comment: This book is amazing. Eight Weeks to a Younger Body does what it promises. I have more energy, feel stronger and look better. The age-group charts in this book are clear. The pictures really demonstrate what to do and the color is great. I'm a fan of Joan's book on strength training -- that worked for me, too. Now she adds cardio and stretching along with new strength training exercises. They're all easy to do at home and there's a program for every body age. She gives you some simple assessment tests and you can compare your scores with other women your age to see how you measure up. You choose the exercises that are right for you. I've already customized my own program for cardio, stretching and strengthening Did I tell you I'm in the "mature" category? Yes, over 50, but ready to Spring ahead, thanks to this wonderful, helpful book. Thank you Joan Pagano!

Summary: Turn Back the Body Clock
Comment: I recently turned 60, so I was curious how I'd rate in terms of my "body age." There are simple self-tests for cardio, strength, and flexibility fitness. I rated fine on cardio, so I'm working out with the 40-year-olds! In strength, I started with the early 50-somethings, and in flexibility, well, I'm staying with my own age group because I really need to stretch. This book is great because it shows you how to "turn back the clock," with a new set of exercises for each decade you shave off. It also has a weight/height chart, and I was pleased to see that I'm not too fat or too thin, contrary to what the ads keep telling us. The exercises are easy to do at home without having to purchase expensive new equipment, and the motivation is there, right in the book, to make progress toward that younger body of yours. Bravo, Joan Pagano!
