Editorial Reviews:

What does it really take to win in football? How can you turn apparent athletic mediocrity into an unstoppable force that can't stop winning? Why do God-given talents and genetic-freaks so often fail on the field to lesser mortals? How do you get the victory before you even step on the field? What fail-safe training method can churn out winners, year-in, year-out, with a staggering consistency? Enter the secret stealth weapon of modern football success, Coach Davies, who has helped high school, college and NFL teams to turn lead into gold -- and also-rans into number one -- with startling frequency. In this book, Coach Davies presents you with his full program for gridiron mastery. The physical programme itself cuts to the core of what really, really, really works-in-the-trenches to optimise on-the-field performance. Techniques run the gamut from cutting-edge Eastern European to tried-and-true traditional. It is all here, from rope-skipping, stretching, hurdling, sprint set-up and Olympic lifts to esoteric Russian Kettlebells, abs-work, ladder work, jumping, tumbling and cones. A goldmine of explicit charts and racks of photographs ensure your complete grasp of how to blow past your current athletic level and ratchet up to greatness.

Summary: Dont buy this
Comment: My main beef with this book is that, like everybody has already said, it's just a collection of pictures and description with some "rah-rah-rah" pep talk included in between about being a renegade. Although, some routines are laid out like the speed and jump rope exercises, there was no explanation on how to incorporate it in a training plan. There was not even an explanation of basic physiology and training principles.

It's probably okay if you already have a basic foundation on training methodology but for a beginner or a novice, it's better if you look somewhere else.

Plus, you can actually find in the internet 90% of the stuff in the book in John Davies's past articles.

Summary: Nice crazy book
Comment: This is how I trained. Run a 1.7 mile MOUNtain everyday in the heat of the say. Push cars back and forth in the heat of the day. Do 500 push ups a night. Kids and adults seem to think they can do something in some nice tights with arm bands and ipods and get stronger. Shoot throw that stuff out and roll in the dirt or forget it. Thanks CAVE MAN>

Summary: bad book by a fraud
Comment: Davies is a complete fraud but a brilliant marketer. the book cotains no detail to his training programs but rather a bunch of exercises. He outright lied about training Ben Johnson, which was totally false since Charlie Francis himself (bens trainer) said so, lied about designing the program at Clemson and Northwestern. All he does is take a bunch of different looking exercises and put them in a book. his programs are unstructured with no regards to recovery and the work loads are ubsurd. Awful book by a huge fraud

Summary: Over price status symbol book
Comment: Once again, I find another [...] publication not living up to the hype in other dragondoor books. The price [...] was not worth it. The book had few illustrations and and seldon corresponded to the type. A person could get very frustrated in trying to figure out how to do these few exercises. There were never enough illustrations to properly understand the exercises.Horrible - little thought went into this book just hype on how to be a great player. Dragondoor is a rip -off factory. NOT RECOMMENDED

Summary: For experienced weight trainers
Comment: I have played football very competively in both high school and college and can tell you that the fooundation that Davies lays out in his book produces better results than any other workout I have seen. There are some problems with the book however. First, as everyone has stated, there is no scheduled training guideline, this requires the reader to formulate their own. Thankfully I was very experienced and could do so with no problem. But I know that not everyone else is. Another problem with the book is that Davies has no emphasis whatsoever on gaining size. And yes, ask anyone who played real football and they will tell you that speed and then size are the two most important things (acceleration x mass= force). Davies has few if any exercises for developing much mass and even alludes to size slowing one down. Big mistake for anyone who wants to play a high level of football. It is few and far in between when someone has so much muscle that they are slowed down by it, look at the professionals. So again I had to go back and address that problem as well. Lastly, these exercises are not easy to accomplish. Many require considerable experience on how to perform the lifts, though Davies does a decent job with the pictures of showing you how to perform them. I strongly recommend this book to anyone with enough experience to formulate their own routine, if not it will only give you insight into some new lifts.
